For Sarah’s birthday we went to Pawmicon – which is a portmanteau of the two words “some dog owners” and “are out of their minds”. In this ComiCon for dogs, owners and their furry puppers dress up as their favorite pop cultural icons. The usual staples were present; Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. But there were also a few more clever and unexpected costumes such as Dumb and Dumber, which took second place to the Game of Bones costume. This getup was comprised of a hand-made throne of 360 dog bones, a very patient terrier dressed as a dragon, and a Khalessi who (as Sarah put it) was a bit Elsa-forward. All joking aside, it was actually a perfectly wacky thing to do on a Sunday in Balboa Park… probably not worth the $30 we spent to get in but the money went to a good cause so everybody wins… especially me because I got to see two weiner dogs dressed as Ghostbusters. I failed to find the canine mutant ninja turtles of my dreams but a pair of Ghostbuster pups is about as good of a second best as you can get.
Also, Sarah got to pet a very happy golden pup which beats any gift I could have come up with.
