More than 2 decades ago I went on my first whale watch where I saw my 0st whale. I’ve still not forgiven the state of Maine. A decade later I went on a cruise to Alaska where I got to hear other people seeing whales. Iceland finally came through for me. It’s impossible to get a decent photo of a whale with an iPhone while also trying to see the whale yourself. So most of this will just be pictures of Sarah and me looking like we’re auditioning for Deadliest Catch. Also there was a puffin.

Godafoss

Not that we saw any unimpressive waterfalls, but this one really knocked some socks off – which is saying a lot because by this point in our trip we’d seen more falls than people. That’s only slightly hyperbolic. You can view this fall from either side – we recommend the left side as you can walk down to the water from there. Waterfalls, unlike people, look the best when viewed from a low angle.

Akureyri (small town)

We stopped here for ice cream and to stretch our legs. But mostly ice cream. It’s a neat little town at the foot of a river home of the most horrifying trashcan I’ve ever seen. Ice cream not shown.

Gerouberg Basalt Cliffs

Iceland is full of walls and cliffs that feel otherworldly when you stand beneath them. This is one of them.
