On Monday we put Dubrovnik in our rear view mirror and headed for Hvar, a wonderful Island whose awkward pronunciation is directly proportionate to how beautiful it is. The bus we took, which in retrospect had no rear view mirror, forced us into Bosnia briefly and then back into Croatia.

Behold! One photo taken from a Bosnian rest stop. Sarah was quite displeased that we had to go through customs but didn’t get a stamp šŸ˜”

Not bad for a rest stop. The bus ride was about 4 hours, which gave me enough time to get the last remaining vestiges of work out of my brain and into Google Docs. Bus Wifi, you glorious bastard. Let the vacationing begin!

After the bus we took a 1 hour boat ride to the island. Come to think of it, we took a car to get to the bus. Here are directions to get from Dubrovnik to Hvar:

Now you too can get around Croatia. Had I been thinking about narrative construction I’d have gotten photos of the bus and boat for this update, but alas I was not. These emojis will have to do. Use your imagination.

Anyhow, Hvar is one of many (thousands?) of islands in Croatia and I can’t say for sure because I’ve been to exactly one of them but I think Hvar might be among the prettiest. The water here looks like whatever golf courses do to their water, except in Hvar they haven’t done anything other than not ruin it. In the next update I’ll take you up the hill to the fortress overlooking the whole city. For now, please enjoy some looks at the city and its surrounding walkways.

This is what Hvar looked like walking to our boat off the island at 6:00 AM. Hvar, you have so many colors šŸ™‚

Also, we found more happy trash animals… dolphin and bear.
